Dark Gray Walk-In Shower
About This Project
A walk-in shower installation in a renovated beach cottage in Belmont Shore — the kind of project where the existing bathroom was a small, dated space that the renovation team wanted to transform into something that felt intentional and modern without losing the cottage character. The large-format dark gray marble porcelain tiles, combined with matte black fixtures and a linear drain, accomplish that shift: the materials are contemporary, but the scale of the shower is still modest and fits the house.
The walk-in shower floor was built on a mud-bed base to achieve the correct slope toward the linear drain. Linear drains require a single-plane slope — all water flows in one direction toward a linear slot rather than from four sides toward a center point drain. This is a more demanding floor installation than a standard center drain because the entire floor must slope uniformly in one direction while remaining flat in the perpendicular direction, so large-format tiles can sit without lippage. The wall tiles were set with a grey tinted thinset to avoid white bleed-through at the joints.
